Hey, I couldn't find an email address for you to send you an answer to your question about the Pinwheel Afghan. So I hope it's okay that I'm answering here.
For the current incarnation of the Pinwheel Afghan, I'm using Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece--a DK weight yarn. The pattern is written for both DK weight and worsted weight yarn. Pretty much any DK or worsted weight yarn (including Shine worsted) will work with the pattern. The other one I made was knit in a variegated colorway of Plymouth Encore. It has a different look than the solid version, but it still looked great.
